This weekend, we managed to escape for a child-free weekend to Cardiff for my brothers 40th birthday celebrations (*Whoops excitedly*).
I’m originally from Wales (incase anyone was ever in any doubt) so Cardiff is my old stomping ground.
Cardiff, the Capital of Wales, is a Cosmopolitan City full of Welsh culture with an abundance of things to do for every generation.
If you’ve not yet visited, it is a City that should most definitely be on your hit list!
PARK PLAZA – LOCATION AND OVERVIEW
Our first thoughts turned to where to stay overnight. We did our research and chose the Park Plaza which is a city centre hotel within walking distance of all the main attractions. It is a luxury hotel situated parallel to one the main shopping street, Cardiff’s Queen Street, so has easy access to everything. Opposite the hotel there is a variety of bars and clubs and it is also in close proximity to the New Theatre which often has fabulous musicals showing. The location of the hotel really is second to none.
The hotel itself is home to the fabulous Laguna Spa which offers a variety of luxury spa treatments and is also home to a decadent 20m indoor swimming pool surrounded by loungers to relax, unwind and soak up the atmosphere.
Unfortunately, as it was a flying trip, we didn’t get to make use of the spa (we were too busy drinking cocktails), however we did obviously pop down to have a look and we were very sad that we were only going to be there for such a short time. We would have loved to make use of the facilities. Maybe next time.
The entrance to the hotel is very sophisticated with a large open lobby, modern fireplace and lots of comfy seating areas. It has a cosy yet polished feel to it.
We stayed in an executive suite with views over City Hall.
We were welcomed with a bottle of wine and some chocolate treats which was a lovely gesture and started off the tone of our trip as it was set to continue, boozy!
The room was spacious and comfortable, however I did feel that the lighting in the bathrooms could have been better, especially when trying to apply make-up.
Maybe this is something the hotel could consider, as it wasn’t just me being vain, even the hubby commented how dark it felt.
Apart from that, the room choice was superb for us.
FOOD & DRINK
We were heading out for dinner as part of the 40th birthday celebrations, so food-wise, I can only comment on the breakfast which was a help yourself buffet set in the Laguna Restaurant with a large selection of hot & cold foods to choose from. The breakfast went down very well, it was exactly what was required after such a boozy evening, and the staff were all super friendly.
Before we headed out for the evening, we had cocktails in the Laguna Bar which were lovely and the setting was very romantic too. The lighting in the bar at night is very soft and there are lots of cosy booths to enjoy some privacy (perfect for date night). Think sophisticated white leather and mood lighting in a contemporary bar with attentive staff.
